PLATINUM FIND?
CLAIM BY PROSPECTOR. SAMPLES FOR # TESTING. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Saturday. The discovery of platinum in the back countiy near Awakino is claimed by a local amateur prospector and geologist, Mi. K. W. Davies. Mr. Davies, who is a well-known diviner who relies on an instrument perfected by himself for discovering precious metals, brought back samples of a heavy white soft metal, very like platinum. Final tests have not yet been made. Others have prospected the country in the past without much success. Mr. Davies says he discovered the samples in part of an old sea bed now inland. He believes this strata runs under a limestone surface over a considerable area. He also discovered email rubies in the ground he was working.
