THE WINTER MEETING. PRINCE PEDRO WINS TAMAHERE. BINGEN CHIEF THE SPRINT. The winter show meeting of the Waikato Trotting Club -was held at Claudelands on Saturday. There was a good attendance, and during the day, under the win and place system, the totalisator handled £P 034, against £7894 under the single pool system last month, an increase of £1140. The racing was good throughout, despite the fact that the going was holding. Surprise in Tamahere. Bingen Chief dropped out of the Tamahere Handicap, and most money came for Jackie Thorpe, Willie Derby and War Paint, but an outsider in Prince Pedro got the verdict and paid double figures on the win machine. There -.vas a false start when they lined up, all going away but Willie Derby and Kewpie's Triumph. When they afterwards were dispatched Nelson de Oro, War Paint and Jackie Thorpe began best, and passing the stand were followed by Prince Pedro and Smooger, with Lady Coronado and Willie Derby five lengths away. The next time round Nelson de Oro was showing the way to Jackie Thorpe, Prince Fearo,. War Paint and Smooger, with Willie Derby and Kewpie's Triumph following. They turned for home in that order, when Jackie Thorpe headed Nelson de Oro, but Prince Pedro came fast and got up to win by three-quarters of a length from Jackie Thorpe, who beat Nelson de Oro by a similar margin. War Paint, Smooger, Willie Derby, Kewpie's Triumph and Lady Coronado were next. A Close Finish. Muriel Bond was the only defection in the Ruakura Handicap, for which Slectrie Bell, Red Frontier and Wintway got most support. When they were let go, Star Pronto, Lady Amanda, ind Tryment began quickest, and passing the stand Star Pronto was attended oy Red Frontier, Tryment, Rare Rey and Lady Amanda, with Winaway next and 21ectric Bell last. The order was ' the same along the back and across the top, There Red Frontier broke and Star Pronto led into the straight from Tryoient, Rare Rey, Winaway and Lady Amanda. Holding his own in the run "-.o the post, Star Pronto held on to win \y a head from Tryment with Rare Eey t length further back. _Lady Amanda, /Vinaway, Electric Bell. Red. Frontier, 3arvestin and Alexis,were next.

Three Horses Fall. Ranfurly Lass, Derby Fame, Worthy "3oy and. Home Brew were not paraded ?or the Kaipaki Handicap, and most noney came for Bismuth, the King's Griiide-King's Play bracket, and Our ilcKinney. When the barriers lifted sports Queen and King's Play broke and ,ost a lot of ground, Cherrill leading nut from Gloister,. Parochial and King'b '3uide. After going a couple of furlongs Worthy Song fell and Tinokaha showed the way along the back from Parochial, Rockella, Cherrill, Our McKinney, Bismuth, Great Chum and Gloster. King's Guide fell near the five 'urlongs, and passing the stands Parofilial had charge from Our McKinney, Rockella, Tinokaha, Bismuth and Bonny Azure. As they turned out of the straight Cherrill came down, and Our McKinney led along the back from Parofhial, Bonny Azure, Rockella, Bismuth md Gloster. The order was the same nto the straight where Rockella came :'ast to beat' Our McKinney by threeluarters of a length, with Bonny Azure , t length further back, Gloster was 'ourth, followed by Bismuth, Parochial, king's Play and Great Chum. The vinner paid a double figure dividend. The Sprint Event. Jackie Thorpe and Prince Pedro were ; lot harnessed up for the Te Kowhai Mandicap, and the bulk of the money • fame for Bingen Chief and Pegaway. Smooger skipped at the start, and i 3ingen Chief was also slow to begin, the eaders past the stand being Nelson ■ de Oro, War Paint and Bingen Chief wide out), then came Lady Coronado, . Kewpie's Guy, Pegaway and Smooger, { 3ingen Chief was close behind Nelson le Oro along the back, with War Paint iext, followed by Kewpie's Guy and Pegaway. Turning for home Bingen • Chief and Nelson de Oro were on terms, J vith Kewpie's Guy and Pegaway handy, •tnd War Paint moving up. In a great inish Bingen Chief beat War Paint by i neck, with Noteon de Oro the same distance away. Pegaway, Kewpie's Guy, j'moogcr and Lady Coronado were next. Transworthy At Last. Electric Bell and W'maway were the defections from the Farwell Handicap, vith which the meeting concluded. The rhief fancies were Transwor.thy, Red frontier and Rare Rey. •' Transworthy ost ground at the start, but eventually nade it up, Tryrnent leading early from J?ed Frontier, Alexia ' and Red Hope. Along the back Tryrnent was attended Sy Star' Pronto, Red Frontier, Alexis and. Red Hope, When they came past 'he stand again the order was Star Pronto, Tryrnent, Red Frontier, Alexis ind Red Hope, with Transworthy moving up. With half a mile to go Try;nent had headed Star Pronto, and into She straight Red Frontier was right up vith them, the trio being followed by transworthy. Red Frontier looked the vinner a couple of hundred yards from 'iome, but he tangled and Tryrnent and Transworthy headed him, the last named Tinning by three-quarters of a length .Tom tryrnent, with Red Frontier half i length away. Rare Rey. Star Pronto, Red Hope and Harvestin were next. An Inquiry. An inquiry was held concerning the running of Electric Bell in the Ruakura Handicap. The Judicial Committee iccepted the evidence of the owner, Mr. A. B. Malmanche, and trainer, W. Orange* that the' horse had been olf colour during the' week, and no action was taken.
