WHANGAREI, Thursday,

If Mr. S. W. Smith, of the Bay of Islands, had his way, the chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Board would be unable to seek honours in the political field. At yesterday's dairy conference he said he'was not in favour of the Dairy Jioard chairman, who, with honorarium and travelling expenses, was receiving about £1000 annually, holding a political position. The position of chairman to the board should be a full-time job. If it was not, it was a sinecure and "a washout." The motion lapsed for want of a seconder!
