WAIKATO TROTS.

THE WINTER MEETING. H CARD FOR TO-MORROW. GOOD FIELDS ENGAGED. The Winter Show meeting of the Wai kato Trotting Club will be held at Claude lands to-morrow, and with the good fields engaged an excellent day's sport should be provided. The betting system will be wir and place. The Opening Event. The programme will open with the Novice Handicap for improving pacers, in which a field of eighteen are engaged. Bonny Azuro has not started since she finished third in the Great Northern Derby at the Auckland Christmas meeting, but she will most likely go out favourite, as she is a very promising pacer. Cherrill has been slio'ving fair form of late and must be respected, while Dei'by Fame would only need to leave the mark to be prominent at the finish. Gloster finished in third place each day at Cambridge and is a solid finisher. Parochial is sure to go a good race, while Worthy Song is an improver. Worthy Boy and Great Chum cannot be entirely left out of calculations, neither can Bismuth and Our McKinney. The race is very open, but three that mayappeal are " PAROCHIAL BONNY AZURE BISMUTH. The Trotters. Nine figure in the Newstead Handicap, a race for trotters, but there is enough material for an excellent contest. Captain Bolt has filled a place on a couple of occasions, but is not too reliable at the barrier. Corona Bell is a particularly well-bred mare, who is sure to win a race shortly. Nelson Luvan has previously raced as a pacer, but he is reported to be showing a good turn of speed in his work at Takanini. Native Tree should improve on her Claudelands form, but the logical favourite is Meadow King, who has been in the money in his last four starts. Young Rodney looks the pick of the others. The best backed may be MEADOW KING NATIVE TREE CORONA BELL. The Principal Event. Next comes the chief attraction of the day, tho Tamahere Handicap. Nelson de Oro is the only one on the limit, but he is too unreliable in the early stages. War Paint has not been racing too well of late, but as she has been suffering with kidney trouble she has not been seen at her best. Bingen Chief would probably be first fancy if started, but he claims a later engagement. Jackie Thorpe is racing v T ery consistently and cannot be left out, while Lady Coronado may effect a surprise. Smooger won at his last start, and is favourably placed to collect another stake. Willie Derby showed signs of returning to form at the recent Waikato meeting, but Kewpie's Triumph does not appeal. The favourite division may comprise BINGEN CHIEF JACKIE THORPE WAR PAINT. The Ruakura Handicap. A hard puzzle is set backers in the Ruakura Handicap. Muriel Bond is a recent winner, while Electric Bell is recognised as one of the most promising young pacera seen out for some time. Star Pronto won at his last start, and a smart beginning wuld see him taking a deal of beating. Tryment has a chance and Red Frontier has been showing good form on the country circuit. Lady Amanda won at the Waikato meeting, while Winaway was successful at Cambridge. Rare Rey may be the best of the others. In a ftood betting race most money may come tor ELECTRIC BELL STAR PRONTO RED FRONTIER. The Improvers. The improvers are again catered for with the Kaipaki Handicap, and earlier form in the Novice Handicap may be the most reliable guide. Most support majr bo accordcd ' KING'S PLAYKING'S GUIDE Bracket ROCKELLA RANFURLY LASS. Tho Open Sprint. With the exception of Kewpie's Guy and Pegaway all those engaged in the Te Kowhai Handicap also figure in the Tamahere Handicap earlier in the day. War Paint will be suited by the distance, while Bingen Chief appeals as one likely to take some beating. Jackie Thorpe is sure to go well, and Smooger must also be respected. Kewpie's Guy will be handy. A trio likely to be fancied are BINGEN CHIEF SMOOGER KEWPIE'S GUY. The Concluding Event. The day's sport will conclude with the Farewell Handicap, and with ten improving pacers engaged an excellent contest should be provided. There are no horses on the limit, and the I2yds mark will be the virtual limit. Electric Bell is again favourably placed, while Star Pronto should also be prominent. Transworthy was a shade unlucky to break when in a handy position at Claudelands, and he may make amends. Winaway and . Rare Rey may be .the best of the others. ; In a good betting race the favourites may be ELECTRIC BELL STAR PRONTO TRANSWORTHY. r ■ A spcial train will leave Auckland at 7.50 a.m. and Newmarket at 8.4 a.m., returning after the last race.
