CONTROL BOARD AFFAIRS. FEATURES FOR NEXT SATURDAY. KING'S BIRTHDAY CARNIVAL. At the meeting of the Auckland Rugby League Control Board last evening, Mr. G. Grey Campbell presiding, the chairman took opportunity to congratulate the Marist and Richmond teams for the fine standard of play in the principal lixture last week-end. The important bearing of next Saturday's draw on the championship was also referred to, and it was decided that pride of place be given to the Ncwton-Marist match, with Mount Albert and Ponsonby involved in the curtain-raiser.

An application of the primary schools' management to conduct a birthday carnival for school teams at Car law Park on Monday, admission to be/ by silver coin towards the insurance fund, was approved. The programme is to consist of four matches from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

A letter from the Wellington League acknowledged a donation of £5, and the board decided to thank Mr. H. Walmsley, of Auckland, for his gift of a championship shield to Wellington.

The New Zealand Council advised that clause 8 of the rules of constitutional conditions governing the issue of life membership badges, had been amended, to provide for seven days' notice being given instead of one month.

In reply to an application from the Northland League for a representative match, it was decided to defer consideration, pending further information concerning the Australian team visit. The league also advised that it had started matches on its own ground, Jubilee Park, at Whangarei, and therefore would welcome visits by clubs from Auckland. The board decided to circularise the clubs, pointing out the opportunity for bye teams to travel north for special week-end matches.

The board decided to give its hearty-co-operation to a proposed scheme by the Onchunga Amateur Sports' Association Tor the improvement of the recreation ground in the suburb. The senior reserve grade match between Devonport and Ponsonby on June 8 is to be staged at Devonport.

Owing to Fowlds Park, Morningside, being regularly used for loctbaH on Saturdays, it was decided to advise the Auckland Whippet Racing Club tßat its request for the use of the ground during the playing season could not be acceded to. In response to a letter from City Rovers suggesting that the terrace fence was dangerous, it was pointed out that this was realised, and that the work would bo undertaken as soon as funds permitted.

LATE ME. JAMES CARLAW.

Added to the many public references to the death of the late JVIr. James Carlaw, the Auckland Rugby League, of which Ah\ Carlaw was a pioneer member and sponsor of the Carlaw Park enterprise, decided at its weekly .meeting last evening to frame a special minute detailing appreciation of the mauv years of service which Mr. Carlaw gave for the welfare of the game. A letter of condolence is to be sent to relatives.
