MANY SHIELD CHALLENGES. TARANAKI COMING OK JULY 27. Mr. A. St. C. liclc-lier presided at lust night's meeting of the Auckland Rugby Football Union, at which advice was received from Canterbury that they desired the Auckland-Canterbury match, at Eden Park on August 10, to bo recognised as a Kanfnrly Shield challenge fixture. 'J'he North Auckland Union confirmed July 3 as the date for its Kanfurly Shield match with Auckland. Applications were received for special Rant'urlv Shield challenge matches from the Taranaki, Waikato. Bay of Plenty, Poverty Bay, and Thames Valley Unions. These applications were referred to the match committee, which was requested to bring down a report on shield fixtures at the next meeting. The Taranaki L'nion wrote agreeing that the date of its match with Auckland at New Plymouth be changed from September 28 to July 27. The chairman referred to the ddath of Mr. ,T. Carlaw, and it was decided to send i letter of sympathy to his relatives. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect, A deputation was received from the Marist Club relative to statements alleged to have been made by the referee in its match agaiiwt Munukau Rovers last Saturday. A sub-committee was appointed to go more fully into the question, and sec it some solution to the trouble could be arrived at. Marist Club was granted permission to travel to Huntly on Saturday. The transfer of 11. Muller from Marist to Northcotc was approved. Mr. Fred Paull was appointed referee for the representative trial match to be played next Monday, and Mr. A. E. Austin for' the Auckland 15-South Auckland game at 1.30 p.m. It was resolved to notify the Auckland Hockey Association that the union would not be able to postpone its matches on the occasion of the Auckland-India hockey match on July 13. MAORI TEAM'S TOUR.

Preparation* for the Maori team's tour to Australia in July were further advanced at a meeting of the management committee of the New Zealand Bugby Union last night. Mr. W. J. Wallace was appointed to act an co-manager of the tour with Mr. Ivingi Taliiwi, and Mr. R. Brian was appointed baggage man. Marlborough, Horowhenua and Wairoa Unions protested that they had not been advised of selection of players from their unions for the Maori trial match at Hamilton on May 22. It was decided to reply that in future the New Zealand L T nion would advise unions concerned of all players selected for Maori matches. All unions are to send into the New Zealand Union by June 15 nominations of players fit and available to make the tour with the Maori team to Australia.The selectors of the Bay of Plenty, East Coast, Poverty Bay and Hawke's Bay Unions are to forward nominations of Maori players for the Prince of Wales Cup match at Gisborne on June 22, to Mr. T . French", Gisborne, while the selectors of the South Island unions should forward nominations for the southern fifteen for that match to Mr. Ned Parata, of Waititi. Nominations arc required by June 15.
