NOB.THCOTE AND BIRKENHEAD REGATTA. DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES. The prizes won at the regatta promoted annually by the and Birkenhead regatta committee were distributed last evening In the King's Theatre, Northcote, over ,'iOO being present. The visitors Included Captain 11. 11. Sergeant, harbourmaster, and representatives from the Ponxonhy, Richmond, Victoria and Tainnki Yacht Clubs. Mr. 11. V. Tyer, chairman of the regatta committee, welcomed (lie visitors and briefly reviewed the past regatta. He thanked the donors of trophies and prize money also the ladies and all who had assisted to make the day successful. Mr. Tyer especially thanked Captain Sergeant -'or his assistance in having marks laid and other matters in connection with the work 011 the day, also Mr. C. Aspden, sen., wno kindly placed one of his vessels nt the committee's disposal as Ilagship. In addition to £80 In cash, the prizes comprised three cups and a number of other trophies, which were displayed on the stage, Hanked by two very (ine .nodcl yachts. Captain Sergeant, patron of the committee, presented the prizes, the principal winners being as follows:—Lepper Cup for local yachts. Meteor (C. Moore) ; Deolrtia Cup, presented by Mr. Vic. Lidgard, .von by Wnkanili (Brian Kitchener) : Skeates Cup, won by Marianne; keel class. Moutere, lona and Speedwell : H. L and N class. Tainariki, Celox and Omatere; M and V class, Marianne. Avian and Drone; S class, Clio, Sceptre and Masc.»te j T and X class, Zephyr, Valet, Swiftsure; Y class. Mlifhty Atom, Rogue and Eclipse: Z class, tola, Rio and Benny ; W class, Wakanul, Wahlnc and Wakatere: sailing dinghies. Kohu. Naneye and Blueuosc; local yachts, Meteor, Opah, Stormy; naval whalers, 11.M.5. Philomel; local launches, Tui, Doreen E. and Joy. The prizes won at the aquatic sports held at Hinemoa Park, Blrkenhearl, and tlio regatta side slfows were presented, also champion flags for the first boat to finish in the following classes: —11, Celox; L, Tainariki; V. Arlene; S. Leone; T, Treasure;• Y, Muiinai; Z, Tc Utu. Captain Sergeant congratulated the committee on the success of the regatta. All events were keenly contested and they were favoured with perfect weather, good entries and a very suitable flagship. On behalf of the committee Captain Sergeant; presented Captain C. Aspden, of the Kalaia, with a photograph of the vessel on regatta day for Mr. Aspden, sen., and a smaller view for the ship. Captain Aspden suitably acknowledged the gilts. Mr. W. A. Wilkinson added his congratulations to Mr. Tyer and the honorary secretary Mr. Frank Fielder, on behalf of the Auckland yachtsmen with whom, he said, the regatta was one of the most popular held during fhe season, as proved by the entries, totalling 138. Vfter supper, dancing was carried on. to tlie music of Mr. 'Mayliill's orchestra. Mr. C. J. W. Taylor being master of ceremonies. Separation orders are sought in British courts by 15,000 wives each year, and 3500 husbands go to prison rather than pay the allowances fixed by the magistrates. Although the Great War ended over 10 years ago, 3000 disabled men arc still detained in • war hospitals, and nearly 4500 artificial limbs were supplied to war pensioners in 1934.
