HEAD'S RESIGNATION.

DEPARTURE FOR ENGLAND.

VOTE OF £1000 FROM BOARD

For health reasons, the Rev. H. K. Archdall, headmaster of King's College, is unable to consider the withdrawal of his resignation, which lie announce'! on June 3. Mr. Archdall raid this Jiorning that he hoped to leave for England on July 12. It was announced to-'!ay that <he St. John's College Trust Board, the governing body of King's College, h,id voted Mr. Archdall £1000 as a token of their esteem. It was also stated that the board had recently informed the parents' committee that it was open to Mr. Archdall V reconsider his resignation, and thai the committee had asked him to do ai. Mr. Archdall, it was stated, had dfuii propared to do so on certain conditions, but his medical adviser now said that it was impossible for him to continue as headmaster of the college witho.il grave danger to his health. Mr. Arch dall had accordingly notified the board of governors that he regretted that it was impossible for him to reconoidiii his resignation. Mr. Archdall this morning eaid that lie had no further comment to mako on the subject, but mentioned that he hoped to sail for England on July 12. Archbishop Averill, chairman of til? St. John's College Trust Board, said this morning that the matter of appointing a successor to Mr. Archdall had not yet been considered by the board, and that nothing would be done for some time. It would be necessary for some temporary arrangements to be made until fi new permanent headmaster was appointed. "It was only yesterday that we heard of Mr. Archdall's ill-health," said hi? C.race. "Up till then we had hoped that he might stay on at the college."
