LONDON SALES.

MARKET FIRM AT FINISH

N.Z. SELLS 33,500 BALES

(Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, May 23 At the wool sales to-dny 10,398 bales were offered, including 4008 New Zealand. In all 5450 bales of Australian and New Zealand wool were sold. New Zealand greasy crossbred, "Paroa," realised top price of IOJd, and an average of 7Jd. Slipe halfbred lambs, "Eclipse, ,, 14j<1 and 13 3-Bd. The sales closed with prices firm, but in some cases slightly below the highest of the series. Compared with March closing, Merinos, greasy, were 15 per cent dearer, scoured 12 J per cent; all crossbreds hardened throughout 12£ per cent, slipes 10 per cent after touching 12J per cent. The total catalogued was 112,854 hales. There were sold to home buyers 42.000 bales, to the Continent 55,500, and to the United States 1000. Oficrings held over totalled 71,000 bales. The total Australian sold was 40,000 bales, and New Zealand 33,500. The home trade and France competed actively throughout. Germany was ratlier restrained. Russia took a fair quantity. March Closing Prices. Closing rates at the end of the March sales for good average condition were:—New Zealand—Merinos: super, (iO-G4's 12d to 13d; ordinary, 00-04's lid to inferior, 00-04's 9d to OJd. Halfbred: 50's 9d to SHd, 50-"»0's 8d to Sid. Crossbred: 50's 7d to 7Jd, 48-50's o£d to 7d, 40-48's 6Jd to OJd, 44-40's 6d to C.}d, 40-44's 5Jd to Gd, 30-40's 5Jd to 52d. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office, under date 23rd instant: — The sales have closed firm for all wool, and the market is very strong.
