■WELLINGTON CITY MISSION
Food, clothing and shelter seem to be assured to hundreds of ■ destitute men in Wellington for the winter and several mouths longer as the result of an intensive collecting campaign carried out during the last two weeke by Mrs. Knox Gilnier with the object of keeping open the men's shelter conducted by tht! Rev. Fielden Taylor, Wellington city missiooer. The appeal, which closed this week, realised the sum of £2326 11/2, made up of donations gleaned from many sources. It is expected that the figure will be improved upon in the next few days when late donations make an appearance. In addition to money (says tlie "Dominion"), the appeal has brought ii. a large quantity of goods from the city and suburban areas as well as from country districts. A contribution of groceries to the value of £30 has been made by the Self Help Stores, and n sum of £10 for the purchase of meat was collected in Levin.
Gratitude to the public for (ho very excellent response to her appeal wai expressed by Mrs. Gihner. "The result is magnificent." she. said. She also thanked the Government for its generosity in making available the sum «l £000 from the proceeds of an art union.
