NORTHERN COUNCIL MEET?

MORE AFFILIATIONS WANTED.

The first meeting of the northern district council of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand was held this morning, Mr. S. Austin Carr presiding. Delegates from the Waikato Association reported that no opposition to the next Royal Show at Hamilton had been shown in the district; on the contrary, the townspeople were keen that the show should be held there. The chairman mentioned that now that the council had been set up all the agricultural associations in the district would have a body to which to refer any matters. The new council comprised practically the same members Rβ the Auckland provincial council, and perhaps that council would retire from office, leaving the one controlling body. On the motion of Mr. Butler it wne resolved that in the event of the Auckland provincial council going out of office, the northern district council be prepared to take over their duties. Tlii< secretary said that every endeavour should be made by members of the northern council to induce members of their own associations to join up with the Royal Society. The Chairman: It is hard to get members to pay 10/ for the privilege of having a Royal Show in their district once in five years. Mr. Goosman: If you don't get the enthusiasm of the associations nml encourage them to join up you are not going to get very far. Mr. Fisher: There are 20 associations and only five affiliated with the Royal Society. Mr. Goosman: It does not matter whether the Royal Show is held in the Waikato or elsewhere: unless we have the support and enthusiasm of the small associations we will not get far. The period of the term of office for which members were elected to the council was discussed, the opinion being that it should be longer than one year. It was decided to forward a remit to the conference asking that, the council should be elected for the period of one Koyal Show to the next Royal Show in that province.
