GOVERNMENT STOCKS ADVANCE
There was a healthy tone at the first call of the Stock Exchange to-day, and a satisfac tcry turnover.
A feature of the morning's trading was a sharp rise in Government 19>><>_ stock, which changed hands at £112 15/. «fj advance of £1 in the last ten days. All Government issues were in firm request, but the only offerings at the conclusion Of the call were parcels of IMO's at *100 10/, 1946's at £108. and 1050> at £108 10/. There was a good inquiry in the banking section at late rates. Australasias improved 1/, with a sale at £11, while Kesoives appear to have settled at a slkhtly lower basis, with quotations from £6 12/6 to .EG 13/. Local shares were Steady, with Auckland Gas quoted from £1 8/ to £1 8/3, and Farmers' Trading from 7/10 to 8/.
Values Firm. T j Values were firm at noon. with; moderate trading. Reserve Banks had, further business at unchanged rates, and were quoted ffd above and below. Consolidated Brick made, another rise, reaching 8/9, with buyers only 3d behind and holders asking 0/. Offers for New Zealand Newspapers were raised to £1 16/. but without response from sellers.
