The Pagakura Town Board held it« usual fortnightly meeting last evening, the chairman, Mr. H. IS. McEntee, presiding. Saving 2/0 a Week. —A weekly amount of 2/li paid for the sweeping of the library was .stopped by the chairman, and his action was approved by the board. King's Jubilee.—The chairman reported that the board's share of the cost of entertaining the children last Friday, when 800 children from 17 schools assembled at Papakura, was £5. The board decided to send a letter of congratulation to the headmaster, Mr. J. E. Elliott, and his staif, on the admirable arrangements. Insurance Rates. —In reply to the boards request for relief in insurance rates, the Auckland Fire and Accident Underwriters' Association said the question had been considered by the committee, which was of the opinion that further relief was not warranted. Village Green.—Further discussion took place on the advisability or otherwise of removing a large amount of spoil, approximately 12,000 cubic yards, for the purpose of utilising the green a.s a sports ground. The board instructed the finance committee to confer with the owner of the section re the disposal of the spoil. Tar Sealing.—Arrangements were made to tar seal the Papakura portion of the Clevedon highway, 79 chains, and Beach Road to the Franklin boundary. The estimated cost to the board is £200, subject to the Highways Board's subsidy of £3 to £1. Protection From Cattle.—A decision was reached to fence off the footpath at the entrances to property on the eastern side of the Great South Road between the Presbyterian church and Young's Beach Road. Petition From Plumbers. —The finance committee's recommendation re the petition from plumbers for a reduction in charges, was that as the board is working under model by-laws prepared for the purpose of genera! usage, if desirable they should, through their association, present their case to the health authorities, so that if desirable the model by-laws may be so amended.
