EGMONT RACING CLUB.

TRANSACT BEST JUMPER. SWEET MUSIC SCORES IN CUP. TOTALISATOR INCREASE, £8023. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HAWERA, Monday. Fine weather favoured the conclusion of the Egmont Racing Club's winter meeting at Hawera to-day, and although the track was heavy the conditions were much more favourable than appeared likely when heavy rain was falling yesterday. Although cold, the day was clear and bright, and there was a largo attendance. The totalisator handled £14,547, compared with £633-2 on the second day last year. The investments for the meeting amounted to £23,612, an increase of £8623 on the 1934 figures of £14,980.

An inquiry was held into the falling of Aussie Ea in the Jubilee Hack Cup, and it was found to be accidental. The Hurdles. Esteem and Ruaform" were most fancied for the Mauawapou Hurdles. Gowanlea was the early leader and piloted the field through the straight, followed by Lucidus, Ruaform and Colossal. At the back Tareha ran up third with Esteem, who lost his rider. Gowanlea was the first into the straight from Ruaform, Tareha and jColossal, and in a great finish Ruaform got home by a neck from Tareha, with Gowanlea two lengths away, third. Colossal and Arctic Star were next to finish. Wins First Start. Caen was a warm favourite for the Coronation Stakes. Sporting Song was the quickest to begin, but when the field settled down Caen led from Lady Eka and Red Sand. The favourite was the first into the straight from Lady Eka, Bantry and Sporting Song, but at the distance Bantry came on the outside to cut down the leaders, and went on to win by two lengths from Sporting Song, who beat Ansleni by a neck. Lady Eka was fourth. This was the winner's first race, and he paid a great price. An Easy Victory. Invictus was withdrawn from the Adamson Steeplechase, and Riotous was the straight-out favourite. Capella Abbey led over the first obstacle from Pahu and Riotous, but the last-named piloted the field through the straight, with Beau Star and Capella Abbey next. Taura Lad took charge at the back from Transact, Riotoim and Capella Abbey, but the post and rail fence at the turn saw Transact nearly come to grief. He recovered well, and led into the straight from Riotous, Taura Lad and Beau Star, and drew right away to win by ten lengths from Riotous, who went right through the last fence. Copey was a length away, third, with Beau Star, Capella Abbey and Pahu next. * A Good Finish. Eighteen contested the Jubilee Cup, Engi finding most support. Royal Secret was quickest to begin from Arctic Iving. Engi and Jubilee Soung. Going along the back Engi was in front, with Sweet Music and Darecourt handy. Crossing the top Engi still held command from Darecourt, Royal Secret, Sweet Music, Reipar and ICurapae, and the order into the straight was the same. Sweet Music challenged at the distance and fought out_ a great finish with Engi, the former winning by a neck, with Ingenuity three lengths back, third. Timorous, Royal Dash and Reipar were the next to finish. Gold Mission's Form. Orac was favourite both ways for the Shorts Hack Handicap. Te Hai was slow to begin, Gold Mission being first to show out from Orac, but Te Hai hit the front crossing the top from Friesland and Orac, with Gold Mission next. Te Hai led into the straight from Gold Mission. Chikara, Friesland and Queen Nona, and in. the run home Gold Mission took charge to win by a neck from Chikara, who beat Orac by two lengths. Friesland and Queen Nona were next.

An inquiry was hold into the running of Gold Mission, and after hearing the evidence it was decided to take no action. The Open Sprint. Cawbeen found most support for the Mokoia Handicap. The favourite was the first to show out, but Boughal quickly took 'charge and led Full Throttle and Refresher to the turn. Full Throttle was first into the straight from Refresher, British Columbia and Cawbeen. At the distance Refresher was in front, and held off a challenge from British Columbia to win by a neck. Orapai was a length and a half away, third, with Full Throttle and Cawbeen next. The Favourite Succeeds. Run was favourite both ways for the Davidson Handicap. Carfex was one of the quickest to begin, but Ruri was in front at the back from Glenvane, Trishna and Sirona. Crossing the top Ruri was still in command, followed by Sirona, Glenvane, Carfex and Trishna. At the turn for home Ruri had Carfex as his nearest attendant, and then came Sirona, Glenvane and Trishna, and went on to win easily by a length from Carfex, who beat Trishna by a similar distance. Glenvane and Sirona were next to finish. Only Three Start. Only three started in the concluding event, Lion Heart being favourite. He took the lead at the start from Onewhetu, but the latter was with him crossing the top, and led into the straight. Onewhetu appeared to be winning easily, when Lion Heart came fast and almost stole the race, Onewhetu getting home by a neck. Later results:— ADAMSON STEEPLECHASE of £150.
