MEMORIAL UNVEILED.
On Saturday evening a memorial was unveiled in memory of Miss Mabel Oliver, for 12 years librarian at the Epsom Library. Mr. Rosser, a member of the Epsom Library and City Council, addressed a large number of subscribers and friends in the Library ITall. In his speech he said that one of the sayings of the Koran was that "Every age lias its books." No one realised this more th (in Miss Oliver, whose pleasure it always was to- help anyone who needed it in the choice of books. From the youngest member of the children's free library branch to the oldest subscriber, all received her careful interest, and her great personality made for the library one of the highest averages in Auckland. The audience later adjourned to the library front entrance, where Miss Ellon Melville, chairman of the Auckland Libraries Committee, unveiled the bronze plaque in memory of Miss Oliver. The metal, Miss Melville said, was of a dull finish so age could not dim it. Mr. G. Harrison, on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver, who were unable to be present, thanked the committee and subscribers, and said that Mr. and Mrs. Oliver hoped to come later and pay tribute.
