AFRICANS DO WELL.

Springboks in Commanding Position at Leicester.

ROWAN'S SPLENDID DOUBLE. (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, May 0. The cricket match between South Africa unci Leicestershire was resumed in fine weather. The county replied with only 123 to the visitors' total of 312. Although 189 runs ahead the follow-on was not enforced by Wade, and the Springboks ran up 214 for the loss of three wickets in their second innings. This left them with a lead of 403, and seven wickets still in hand.

Leicester was always in trouble after Bell had dismissed Berry. Crisp was the most spectacular bowler, but Tomlinson was impressive, cleverly mixing his pace and break. The fielding of the South Africans was often brilliant.

Dempster (New Zealand), who lias not yet qualified for county championship matches, looked dangerous, but Crisp beat him neck and crop with a perfect length ball. The South Africans had some useful batting practice, the captain himself in opening the second innings showing some fine forcing strokes. Rowan, who made 01 in the first innings, again got close to the century before falling a victim to a leg-before appeal. Scores: — SOUTH AFRICA. First innings 312 Second Innings.
