POLL TO-MORROW

MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS IN N.Z. LABOUR PARTY'S BID FOR POWER. HEAVY VOTING AND KEEN CONTESTS CERTAIN

Electors of municipalities throughout New Zealand will to-morrow choose mayors and councillors for a three years' term of office. The election campaigns generally have been exceptionally keen, public interest appears to be greater than ever before, and enrolments of voters are very heavy—there are nearly 70,000 in Christchurch as compared with nearly 62,000 in Auckland.

The striking feature of the campaign is the determined bid being made by the Labour party to win the mayoralty and a majority on the City Council in each of the four main cities as a prelude to the Parliamentary general elections later in the year. Estimates of their chances of success are published to-day from the "Star's" correspondents in the Southern, centres.
