PAGEANT OF EMPIRE.

GREAT JUBILEE CELEBRATION. IMPRESSIVE SOLEMNITY OF THANKSGIVING. POMP AND SPLENDOUR MARK REGAL PARADES. PUBLIC REJOICING OF UNPRECEDENTED FERVOUR. The Silver Jubilee procession in London yesterday morning passed through a gala city decked in festival dress on a scale not seen for many years. There was colour everywhere. To the brilliant pageantry Nature set a gorgeous blue, unclouded, canopy. It was indeed a silver jubilee with a golden setting. Dawn came with a shimmering mist, but the sun soon shone genially and warm, and set the thropged City in carnival mood, in spite of the fact that many had camped on the Embankment, in parks, and even in doorways all night. The whole route from the Palace to St. Paul's Cathedral was wedged with a goodnatured mass of humanity. So well-behaved were the crowds that the troops and police flanking the path of the royal progress were almost superfluous. How the spirit of the jubilee had gripped the people was shown even in the most remote suburbs, which had no glimpse of the King, yet were beflagged and festooned, and displayed messages of good will. The decorations in every sense provide king-dom-wide tribute and thanksgiving, but London itself is the greatest blaze of colour. The climax of a memorable day of unprecedented public demonstration was reached at Buckingham Palace on the return from St. Paul's, when Their Majesties had to appear on the balcony repeatedly to satisfy the clamour of thousands.
