WAIKATO PIONEER.

A LONG AND VARIED LIFE.

MB. EN OS HOLLO WAY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) MORRINSVTLLE, this day. To have lived through the reigns of three Sovereigns—a period of nearly a century—is the distinction of Mr. Enos Holloway, of Thames Street, Morrinsville, who celebrated his 97tli birthday on July 31 of last year, and still enjoys fair health. When a representative of this paper called on Mr. Holloway yesterday to congratulate liim on having seen the silver jubilee celebrations of the Kin}?, and having lived through the reigns c;t the King's two predecessors, Mr. Holloway himself opened tlie door and extended a cordial welcome. Born in the year 1837, the year that Queen Victoria ascended the throne as a girl of 18, Mr. Holloway joined tlia 40tli Regiment in 1885 and served in it over 11 years. The regiment was ordered to Melbourne in the fifties, and when the Maori wars broks out in Taranaki in 18G0, was one of the first military units sent to New Zealand.

Mr. Holloway served through the campaigns in Taranaki and the Waikato, taking his discharge at the close of the | occupation of the Waikato by the . British forces.
