INSTALLATIONS. DANCES AND SOCIAL FUNCTIONS. COUNTRY NEWS. At the Cenotaph at the Anzac Day ceremony, on behalf of the Manchester Unity Oddfellows, S. D. Eade, D.D.G.M. of the Auckland district, and Sister Eade laid a wreath to the memory of the brethren who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War. Bro. Eade was accompanied by the district treasurer, district warden, also past-district grand master, William Dpaii. The Manchester Unity Oddfellows have placed a wreath each year since the first temporary Cenotaph at the Town ITall.

The Methodist Hall, Penrose, was well filled on Monday evening, when a district farewell was given to Sister Miss Williams, a life member of the 1.0. C.T., who is leaving Penrose, after spending many years of useful service in that district. The gathering was arranged by the T.O.G.T. in conjunction with the Ratepayers' Association, the chair being occupied by Mr. Whitehead, president of the association. Sister Williams is one of the best-known social workers in Auckland, having been an official visitor to the Auckland Hospital, mental hospital and gaol for a very lengthy period. She first became a visitor to the hospital before the present buildings were erected, in the days when only the doctor and the sister were employed, with a small room each for men and women. She is still a constant visitor to this institution, and no doubt will remain so whilst her strength permits. In local affairs she has always been to the forefront in all matters pertaining to the welfare of the district. Tributes to her sterling qualities were i paid by the chairman, Mr. Whitelaw, Bros. W. J. Jordan, M.P., F. C. Pace. G.S.J.W., C. Anderson, C.T., Light of Penrose, and A. Vost, secretary, Shining Star Temple. A small tribute of good will and esteem was presented by Bro. Anderson on behalf of his lodge. Sister Williams suitably responded. Attractive items were given at intervals by Mr. Potts, Mr. and Mrs. Simpson, Miss Rowe, Sister Mrs. Rogers, Betty Rogers, Jean and Molly Anderson, and Bro. A. Vost and Mr. Crocker (accordion). A dainty supper was served by the ladies, at the close of the proceedings.

The annual ball of the Loyal Waitoa Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., was held on Easter Monday and proved a great success, over 200 couples taking part in the dancing. Visitors were present from Loyal Te Arolia, Walton, Paevoa, Morrinsville, Hamilton, Waharoa, Matnmata, and all surrounding district.-. Extras were given by Mesdanies 10. Forster and A. Joll. The winners of tli<> Monte Carlo waltz proved to be Mrs. Fitzgerald and Mr. Aislabie, whilst the spot waltz went to Mrs. I'. Andermatt and Mr. W. Jonson. A novelty introduced into the programme was a confetti waltz. A very nice supper was served under the direction of a capable ladies' committee. The duties of master of ceremonies were efficiently carried out by Bros. S. Bigwood, C. Wadhain, and IT. P. O'Xeale. The hall had been tastefully decorated with red, white, and blue streamers and greenery, the effectiveness of which called forth many tributes of admiration.

The Myrtle Rebekah Lodge, No. 4, 1.0.0. F., held their fortnightly meeting last week, Sister M. Hogg, N.G., presiding over a large attendance of members and visitors. Sister Knight, P.G., of Kawakawa Lodge, conveyed greetings from her members, and congratulated Myrtle Lodge upon their attractive banners. Sister Tailby, P.L.D.D.G.M. thanked the sisters for their help on Poppy Day. Accompanied by Sister Wood, P.G., she placed a wreath at the Cenotaph on Anzae Day, on behalf of the Rebekah Lodges. Sister L. Boles, L.D.D.G.M., was also in attendance, and presented the jewels won at the last ritual competition. The jewels that were tied for with Maungarei were drawn for, and Myrtle will hold these for the first part of the term. It was decided to attend officially the next meeting of Maungarei Lodge to witness the presentation of the ritual shield. At the conclusion of the business, a light supper was served by the committee.

The Pride of Hamilton Lodge, No. 49, U.A.0.D., had ail extra large attendance at their last meeting in the Toorak Chambers, the occasion being the installation of the new district president of the No. 15 district. Visitors were present from Matamata, Te Arolia and all the lodges in the district. Bro. A. Jarman, the retiring D.P., acted as installing officer, and in a most impressive manner, installed his successor. Bro. J. K. Irwin. Adjournment was tlien made to the supper room, where well-laden tables awaited the gathering. Bro. Carley, A.D., presided here, and a lengthy toast list was duly honoured. The new D.P. received the" gift of a very nice cake from the sisters of the lodge, whilst Bro. Jarman was presented with his P.D.P.'s diploma. Musical and elocutionary items were contributed by Mr. W. Whitehead. Sis. Muir, Bros. J. T. Watson and G. J. Redwood. A very amusing sketch was given by Sisters Thompson and Muir and Bros. Co»-'ey, Irwin and Waters.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Ranfurly Lodge, M.U., was held on Tuesday evening, Bio. ,T. F. Carnegie, N.G., presiding. One new member was initiated into the Order, receiving a warm welcome. During the evening the Cunliffe i>oo Cup was presented to the lodge, this coveted trophy having been won from Loyal Parnell Lodge. Members of Loyal Dominion Lodge were welcomed and conveyed fraternal, greetings. Bowls and indoor games were played at the conclusion of the meeting, these being followed by supper served by the stewards.

At the last ordinary meeting of'the Loyal Waitoa Lodge, M.U., a group committee meeting was held to finalise the arrangements for the group installation of the Loyal Waitoa Hot Springs, Morrinsville, and Kereone Lodges, to be held at Waitoa on June 0. The local officers will preside, assisted by Bros. R. R. Heaton and D. Fraser, P.G.'s, as conductors, and Bro. G. H. Lynch, P.G., as outside guardian. It was also decided to hold a group ball on July 3. After supper had been served members were entertained to a dance, music being supplied by Sisters M. Berry and R. 15. Clieflings and Mr. F. Cheffings.

On Sunday last a united church parade was held in the Methodist Church, Paeroa, by the Loyal Jubilee Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., and Star of Paeroa Lodge, U.A.O.D. A procession marched up the main street to the church, and attracted much attention. The church was well filled, and the minister, Rev. J. R. Harris, preached a very appropriate sermon. A special anthem was rendered by the choir and popular hymns sung.

Loyal Ho wick Lodge, M.U., held a very enjoyable dance in the Public Haii, an excellent attendance being recorded. Among the many visitors were a large party from Loyal Dominion Lodge. The duties of masters of ceremonies were admirably carried out by Bros. T. Mold and R. Newton.

Clevedon Lodge, No. 70, 1.0.0. F., held I their half yearly installation at their [ last meeting, a large attendance including visitors from Star of Papakura, No. 82, and Star of Waiuku, No. 30. The chief ceremony was ably carried out by the D.D.G.M. for the Franklin district, Bro. 11. U. .Monro, and his suite. The new officers are: Noble grand, Bro. N. A. Neelcy; vice-grand, Bro. N. A. Scott; financial secretary, Bro. G. R. Munro; recording secretary, Bro. G. 11. Alexander; treasurer, Bro. L. 11. Brown; warden, Bro. J. A. Bell; conductor, Bro. A. C. Atchison; chaplain, Bro. 11. Sutherland; R.S.N.G., Bro. T. Hyde; L.S.N.G., Bro. S. A. Bell; R.S.V.G., Bro. G. Bell; L.S.Y.G., Bro. T. Orsulieh; R.S.S., Bro. F. Atchison; L.S.S., Bro. L. Sladdin; inside guardian, Bro. IS. C. Alexander. At the conclusion of the business some good games of indoor bowls were enjoyed.

A feature of the last lodge meeting of the Loyal Remuera Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., was the unexpected visit of' tiie district grand master, Bro. Thompson, accompanied by the D.D.G.M., Bro. Eade, district treasurer Bro. Clarke and group officer Bro. McKay. The usual large attendance was present to warmly greet the district officers, who had the pleasure of witnessing two more candidates receive their initiation into the order. In reply to the welcome extended by N.G., Bro. Sellwood, the district officers commended the lodge officers upon their work and ritual. A social was held at the close of the meeting, the visitors acting as judge in the danc- | ing competitions and games.
