BUSINESS IS FAIR. RESERVE BANKS HIGHER!" SOUTH BRITISH FIRM. A feature of Stock Exchange dealings lately has been a better inquiry for bank shares, and at this morning's call Reserves touched a new high level with business at £0 13/3, after which buyers remained in at 3d less and sellers raised their reserves to £0 15/. Commercials were steady between 15/tf and 15/11, and New Zealands from £2 10/6 to £2 11/. The insurance section was very firm. South British, now ex dividend, had buyers at £4 18/, with holders asking £5, and New Ssalands were quoted between £3 10/6 and £3 11/6. There were more offerings of Government stocks, the 1040's being available at £ 105, 1940-a at £ 107 10/, and 1055's at £112. Wailiis were somewhat easier, with sellers at £2 3/9 and no buyers. Busy at Noon. Business improved during the morning, and at noon the market was active, with values firm. South British recorded a rise of 1/3. after which quotations were £4 18/0 and £5. Kauri Timber went 3d Urigher, at which level sellers were still willing to quit, while buyers stopped at 18/10. New Zealand Breweries confirmed their rise by further sales, and were then quoted 3d on either side of the market price.
