LOCAL BODIES.

NEW LYNN. A meeting of the New Lynn Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor, Mr. Geo. Lawson. presided, other members present being Messrs. A. J. Jeffrey. Geo. Severne, A. Woolley, F. Carter, S. Hards and C. Drury. Auckland War Memorial Museum. —The council was advised that New Lynn's contribution towards the maintenance of the War Memorial Museum for the year ending March 31, 1930, wis £70 10/. School Grounds. —The New Lynn School Committee submitted a schedule of works desired to be carried out on the school grounds. The works committee was requested to confer with the school committee as to what could be done. v Marina Estate.—Three new roads cn this estate were dedicated and the council resolved to sell by public tender a number of sections on Astley Avenue and a 2V&-acre block on Dudley Avenue.

PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD. The Papakura Town Board met last evening, the chairman, Mr. 11. E. McEntec, presiding. King's Silver Jubilee. —The board decided to co-operate in every way possible with the Government to celebrate fittingly this occasion, and it was resolved to confer with the local U.S.A. on the matter. Papakura Chess Club.—The Papakura Chess Club, in a letter to the board, stated that it had engaged other rooms and expressed thanks tor the loan of the board's room last season. Art Union.—A cheque for £8, Papakura's share of an art union, was, on the motion of Mr. ]). Weir, passed on to the Papakura Welfare League with the recommendation to this body to purchase women's and children's footwear for distressed persons in the district. Rugby League Football. —After making inquiries, on the subject of the rental of Prince Edward Park to the Papakura League Club, it was decided to fix the rental at £5 per season. Bowling Facilities on Village Green.— It was stated that the matter of forming two bowling greens on the village green was still hanging fire. One member said it was undesirable to deal with the subject definately till the attitude of the club officially was known. The chairman said that very valuable spoil at present on the village green was earmarked for different places in Papakura, and if this was used it would be hard to replace. Personally he would like to see the green there. After further discussion the board decided to further consider the matter.

Straying Stock. —Straying stock was reported by the clerk to have been an absolute nuisance lately in Papakura. He had given authority recently for some straying animals to be sent to the pound in Otahuhu. The clerk's action was endorsed by members of the board, and the foreman instructed to send any straying animals at once to Otahuhu.
