FROM ACROSS THE SEAS

119, Ballance Street, Gisborne. Dear Wendy and Peter Pan, — As I am unable to. write to you about holidays and picnics I thought I would write and tell you about my different pey friends overseas. I Kk* writing letters very much, but I like receiving them still more, and as I have six overseas pen friends I have quite a large mail sometimes. I have pen friends in Australia, India, South Africa, Palestine, Holland and U.S.A. We exchange snaps, pressed flowers and ferns and general topics. I have such a lot of fun receiving fJieir letters and then finding something new, of interest

to them, that I can write about.,. I have been sending the "Enzed Junior -, to a few- of my pen friends, and in every letter they mention how much they enjoy them. They were all very interested in the series of tours in New Zealand. On Christmas morning I had a lovely surprise, for on opening a small parcel I found the dearest wee pair of wooden clogs from my' Dutch pen friend. They are about five inches long and beautifully fashioned from white wood. On top of each toe there is a painting of a little Dutch mill. I don't think anything could have been as nice as those miniature clogs. From my friend in Palestine I had a box of the loveliest fine hand-made lace. It is wonderfully fine work, and in the letter that accompanied the parcel she said that the girls that did it are very often nearly blind before they are twenty. I think I would rather not have any lace if that is the result, wouldn't you, Wendy? I must close now, Wendy. Thanking you nil for sending out to us young Xew Zealanders such an interesting paper, and wishing it every success. I remain, yours sincerely, Jessie Alexander.
