LONDON COMMENT.
"GOVERNMENT ADAMANT."
QUOTA IF LEVY REJECTED.
(Received 12 noon.)
LONDON, March 3.
New Zealand's rejection of the meat levy proposal, closely following Dr. Karlo Page's reply, has caused a widespread feeling that the levy is "dead as mutton."
Ministers arc reserving their considered opinion, pending examination of the replies, but regarding restriction Government quarters are adamant, repeating more emphatically that they stand by the White paper as plainly stating British policy. If the Dnminions decline a levy, the only alternative is the drastic restriction, which Britain will enforce on July 1.
