THE CHILDREN'S DEMONSTRATION.

On a monster demonstration of all pupils in the primary and secondary schools was held in "the Domain. The notice announced that they were expected to be there, and the time was stated. The notice did not add what they" might expect to see and hear when they got there. As one who was in charge of a good number of children I can say quite safely that none near where I was could see or hear anything. The children were packed in a"dense mass on level ground, and in consequence they could not see the Governor-General or Lady Bledisloe. Whoever were responsible for the arrangements cannot have given the matter full consideration, for it must ihave been clear that the children, except in some fortunate situations poseibly. could not see over the next child's head; and a voice will not carry into a dense mass. The broadcasting arrangements were not notably good. If the children had been arranged in a large hollow square with a lane down each line, the happy result would have been achieved of the "pupils seeing his Excellency and Lady Ble.lisloe. and both his Excellency and Lady Bledisloe are well known for their interest in children. The oratorical dip«play, excluding his Excellency's speech, was both unnecessary and uncalled for; a few wellchosen words, briefly and happily spoken, would surely have been ample. In the past, children's or pupils' nines demonstrations have been admirably arranged and with the happiest of results. Let those who bring these demonstrations about give more thought to the children: NEMO.
