FERN LEAF NOTE PAPER.

(Sent In by Margaret Bowmar, Almslie Road, Paeroa ; age 14.)

You can decorate notcpaper with real leaf print* very prettily in this way: Collect a number o f rather small perfect leaves from almost any plants. Choose those which have a striking outline; fern loaves or clover leaves are very attractive. You will now require a little methylated spirits—the clear and not the coloured sort. Pour some of the' cspirita into a saucer, and then in this place the leaves, allowing them to soak for four or five minutes. The spii'its have the effect of partly dissolving the green colouring matter in the leave.-. Xovk put out a sheet of paper you wish to decorate and decide how you wish to have the leaf prints. Two or three in the corner would look smart. Lift the leavets up from the epirit and allow them to drain a little, then rest them carefully on the paper where you want the print. Xow cover with a piece of blotting paper and rub this with the fingere. It must be done thoroughly, so that every part of each leaf is pressed, and take care that there is no shifting, else you will have .». blurred outline. AVhen you lift up the blotting paper, you will find that you have, perfect prints of the leaves in bright green. The colour will be brightened if each print is brushed over with a lii.Ho clear gum.—(Copied.)
