"CAT" BURGLAR.
WAREHOUSE VISITED.
CLIMB TO HIGH WINDOW.
DARING FEAT EXECUTED.
Last night the big warehouse of Kempthorne, Prosser and Company, Limited, New Zealand Drug Company, in Albert Street, was entered by a daring burglar of the "cat" or climbing variety. Several drawers and desks in the office on the second floor were forced open by the intruder, who was evidently in search of money. None was found, however, a small quantity of tobacco being the only stock taken.
Tho high, spiked gates leading to the yard from Federal Street were scaled by the burglar, who afterwards used a plumber's ladder to climb on to the roof of the acid shed which adjoins a lean-to or roof protecting the goods entrance to the warehouse. From here the burglar had to walk along a sloping parapet at the foot of a high brick wall, on the top of which is embedded in the concrete a plentiful supply of broken bottles.
Running the risk of falling on to the broken glass, the "cat" burglar successfully climbed up two sets of down-pipes, placed closely together, and prised open tho window on the second floor. This led him into the main office, where a thorough search was made for money. It is believed that he made his exit by "shinning" down the pipes, as all doors of the warehouse were securely locked and could not be opened from the inside.
