Tho reason is that most liuinan iieings arc naturally greedy and their cupidity blinds their reason. .Nearly every investor has in his mental make-up two characteristics which war against Jiis Selling any Investment which lias appreciated in value. These two characteristics arc:— 1. The idea that lie may j:et more by Retaining the Investment. 2. The fear that if he sells somebody t'lse may reap an additional pro.'it which might have been hi.s. He forgets three things:— 1. That the profit which the market shows is only a paper pi'otit and not a real one until turned into money. 2. That it is impossible to tell when tne niark((fr has readied the top. for conditions which cause appreciation may alter over night so na to cause depreciation. 3. That if a profit be taken the Investor has additional capital to reinvest. Now the way to look at all Investments us this —If your investment increases in value so us to enable you to sell at a fair profit dependent upon the time you have held it, SELL AT ONCE—look at 'he transaction as a whole and forget the other man. You have added to your capital and the transaction is over. Forget it. Even if the Investment continues to rise it does not matter to you. It miglit just as easily fall again. Never mind the other fellow who perhaps has gained a little. He has .; greater chance of losing than you. No one has beeu ruined or lost money by taking a profit, but the number who have lost by failing to do so are as the sands of the sea. The shares In a certain concern a slioit time ago became very popular owing to authentic rumours as to the success the company was meeting in its enterprise. Anticipating a good balance-sheet an 1 dividend the crowd rushed the shares up in tin; market until a peak price of over three times the par value was reached and th -n the market "flopped." The few wise oik > had sold out, but the majority had all nlungi said. -We'll get more." To-day there is not a buyer on the market, and there arc any number of sellers just over par. The writer advised many holders to take their profit, but they knew better or thought tlr y did. Every broker knows the man who wants to get a little more and a'.so knows that such a man invariably "misses the bus." A good rule to follow Is ALWAYS to take a reasonable profit on any Investment when it can be had. Curb your desire to exact tho maximum out of your Investment and don't be afraid of leaving "n little milk in the saucer" for the other fellow.
