TEMPERANCE WORK.

DISTRICT EXECUTIVE MEETING. The district executive of the Women's Christian Temperance Union met on Monday in the temperance room, Unity Buildings, when Mrs. Kasper presided over a large attendance of members. Mrs. Singleton and Miss Fyfe were welcomed back after prolonged absence, and Mrs. Pace as a new member. The following business was passed: —Mrs. Kasper appointed to represent Auckland district at Dominion Convention in Dunedin, to be held this month; invitation given for Dominion Convention of l!)3(i to be held in Auckland; "Y" Unions to send two representatives to Dunedfn convention; suggested plana of work for coming temperance poll; regrets expressed at the termination of the Pacific Club; copy of temperance song forwarded, to be used at convention; Mrs. Kasper was nominated as Dominion vicepresident. Y.P.C.T.U. The district executive committee of young People's Christian Union met on Monday at Newton East Mission Hall. Miss Appleby presided. The proposed delegate to convention being unable to go, a small sum was handed to Mr. Alex MacClure, who is attending the convention. Miss Armit gave a talk on "Is Alcohol a Food?" Miss Armit then gave a report on adult district executive. Miss Appleby gave a short reading on the youth of Kansas City, U.S.A.. Mr. Syd." Guthrie gave a farewell message prior to returning to his home in the South Island. Suggestions regarding work' to be done were then received. AUCKLAND BRANCH. The opening meeting of the Auckland Women's Christian Temperance Union was held on Tuesday afternoon in the club room, Y.W.C.A. Mrs. John Cook presided over a large gathering of members. Mrs. Stimpson gave an address on the faithfulness of God. Willard Day was observed, and a collection was taken for the world's missionary fund. In the course of her words of welcome to the members, the president announced that in a letter received from Mrs. Leo Cowie the good news was contained that Kansas voted a majority of 77,000 in favour of prohibition. London University had recently arranged a debate on the liquor question. Mrs. Cook brought the claims of the Bible in Schools League before the meeting. Mr. L. Falkner, secretary of the New Zealand Alliance, gave an interesting address on personal influence and effort. Afternoon tea was served. Remits for the Dominion Convention were discussed. EVENING BRANCH. The evening branch of tile W.C.T.U. met in the Sunday School Union Hail on Monday evening. Mies Jump, president, opened the meeting. Devotions were read and conducted by Miss Evans and Mrs. Tasker-Brown led in prayer. The secretary, Mrs. Flinn, read minutes. The temperance fact, "Alcohol is a protoplasm poison nnd a great source of danger to all life whether plant or animal," was read in unison. The j speaker for the evening, Mr. L. Faulkner, gave an address on the outstanding success of personal work, nnd the best methods to use in the education of women. A solo was rendered by Miss Jump. Amongst those present were:— Miss Reed, vice-president of the district, and a visitor from Melbourne, Miss Blackmore. MOUNT EDEN. The Mount Eden W.C.T.U. held their first meeting of the year. Various matters relative to the work, both social and temperance, were discussed. Remits for convention were drawn up. A report of district executive was given. 'A paper on "The Life of Francis Willard" was read by the president, Mrs. Brockleliurst.
