CITY MAYORALTY.
LABOUR BALLOT. SIX CANDIDATES NOMINATED. FULL COUNCIL " TICKET." Considerable interest is being shown in Labour circles concerning the ballot to be held to-morrow night to determine the Labour party's choice of a mayoral candidate. Nominations closed on February 28 for all the municipal seats, and there are six aspirants for Mayor and 32 candidates for the 21 seats on the City Council. The nominees for the mayoralty are: — Mr. IT. 0. R. Mason, M.P. Mr. W. T. Anderton. Mr. J. Sayegh. Mr. U. Bailey. Mr. Bernard Martin. Mr. J. Stewart. Mr. Mason was the Mayoral candidate at last election. Messrs. Anderton, Sayegli and Bailey arc members of the City Council. Mr. Martin was formerly a councillor, and Mr. Stewart was an unsuccessful candidate at last election. The Labour party is to run a full "ticket" for the council, and also for the Transport Board, tho Hospital Boar 1 and the Harbour Board. There are more candidates nominated in each instance than seats to be contested, and the selection ballot to-morrow will determine the candidates in each instance. So far only two candidates are definite for the Mayoralty—Mr. Ernest Davis, who is being supported by the Citizens' Committee, and a Labour candidate. Mr. (J. Grey Campbell, chairman of the public services committee of the City Council, has boon mentioned from time to time as a likely Mayoral candidate, but so far no officiai statement has been made on his behalf, while Miss Ellen Melville, chairman of the City Council's library committee, announced her candidature some months ago. The opinion in Labour circles is that the ballot to-morrow will be overwhelmingly in favour of Mr. Mason. With three, or perhaps four, candidates in the field, there, would be one of the keenest contests for many years.
