REPORT OF ROYAL HOTEL
COMMENT BY CHAIRMAN.
At the quarterly meeting of the Auckland Licensing Committee, held at noon to-day in the Magistrate's Court, the chairman, Mr. Wyvcrn Wilson, S.M., brought up the matter of the Royal Hotel.
Addressing Sub-Inspector l>. Scott, who represented the police, the chairman eaid that he had noticed, In the police report, that John Reilly, licensee of the Royal Hotel, had brought himself within* section 253 of the Licensing Act and rendered himself liable to forfeiture of his license because of a recent conviction —the second within six months. "No step has yet been taken by the police to have this man's license forfeited," said Mr. Wilson. "It is not for the licensing committee to take action. The correct procedure ie for the police to call upon him to show cause why his license should not bu forfeited. Are any such steps being taken?" Sub-Inspector Scott: Yes, sir, not for this meeting, but at the annual meeting in June next. Mr. Wilson: Proceedings will be taken ? —Yes, sir. "Very well," said the chairman. Transfers Granted. The following transfere were granted: Victoria Hotel, from J. R. Hill to Alexander Watt; Waverley Hotel, from E. E. Harvey to Joseph H. Winter; Metropolitan Hotel, from E. 0. Bennejtt to N. D. Culpan.
This was the only business transacted at the meeting.
