LARGE HOME LOST.
OVERLOOKING ROTORUA.
EARLY MORNING FIRE
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
ROTORUA, this day
One of tlio most picturesque homes in the district, that of Mr. Colin D. Smith, lit Kawah.a Point, overlooking Lake Rotorua, was destroyed by fire early this morning. The houee was situated outside the boundary of the fire brigade's district, and it would have been useless for the brigade to attempt operations, had there been time, as there was little hope of 1 making use of water from the lake.
No information ie available at present as to the cause of the fire, but the occupants escaped only with what they were wearing, and the contents of the whole 14 rooms were lost. A wind from the soutli-eaet saved a few sheds.
The house, with garage and out buildings, was insured by the New Zea land Insurance Co., Ltd., for £2500.
