"My little boy is too unwell to come to school to-day," said a small voice at the other end. "Oh, I am sorry to hear that," said the headmaster. "Who is that speaking, please?" "My father, sir!" came the reply. * * * ■» An admiring group surrounded the boy who had plunged into the river and effected a rescue. "That was very brave, my lad," exclaimed the bystander. "Bravery be jiggered," replied the Vlripping hero; "he had four of my pennies in his pocket." Visitor: What happened to the curate who used to lodge here? Landlady: He went to New Guinea to get inside information on cannibals, and he got it. (Sent in by P. J. Roycroft, Klmberly Road, Wailii.) Mother: Did you catch all those beautiful fish yourself, Jimmy? Jimmy: Oh, no, mother. I had a worm to help me.
Private: The enemy are as thick as peas. sir. What shall I do? Officer: Oh, shell 'em.
