GUARDS TURN OUT.
ALARM AT BANK OF ENGLAND. (Received 2 p.nr.) LONDON", February 27. The "Daily Mail" says that a sentry, James Baker, a member of the Welsh Guards and a picket at the Bank of England who went on duty at No. 5 post at the bank at 4 a.m., was found shot in the head by his own rifle at 4..'J0. A bugler sounded tlie alarm, and the guard turned out. Baker was taken to hospital, and died. This is only the second such occurrence during the 155 years in which the Guards have picketed the bank. The previous occasion, by an eerie coincidence, occurred at the same post in August, 1922.
