DIRECT ATTACK.

BODYLINE BOWLING. Position of Notts Discussed By the Counties. DID NOT ABIDE BY AGREEMENT (United P.A.—Electric Teicgrapn—Copyright) (Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, February 26. Notts "was given a further opportunity to clarify the position regard- , ing direct-attack bowling, as the result of a full meeting of the Advisory County Committee at Lord's, lasting two hours. Middlesex proposed and Lancashire seconded a resolution, which was carried unanimously (Notts abstaining from voting), in which it was pointed out: — "(1) Although Notts' internal affa;rs were solely the concern of tho club, yet the counties and the well-being of cricket are intimately affected by the general position. "(2) The meeting considers that Notts on occasions in 1934 did not abide by tho agreement of the Board of Control Advisory Committee, on November 23, 1933, whereby it was expected that the question of fast, short leg-side bowling would bo settled by the good will of captains and co-operation. "(3) While noting Notts' decision to abide by Marylebone's rules 4 and 2, the meeting finds it difficult to reconcile that statement with the resolution passed on January l(i. "(4) In view of tho 1935 championship it is essential that Notts issue an authoritative statement whether it stands by the resolution of November 21 concerning direct-attack bowling." Derbyshire proposed and Surrey seconded a resolution: "That this meeting believes the Notts' committee's statement to be in the interests of cricket, but views with concern the members' resolution of January 16 as being only interpretable as approval of bowling contrary to the spirit of the game." Tho resolution was carried unanimously, Notts again abstaining from voting. Eventually on the assurance of the Notts' representative that the resolution was not intended to bear such an interpretation, tho Advisory Committee decided to defer action until the Notts' annual meeting on March 21, when the club's policy can be defined regarding direct-attack bowling. The Marylebone Committee subsequently confirmed the above resolutions.
