HEAVY DAMAGE.
Lives Lost and Buildings Razed In Two-Minute 'Quake. TREMOR IN GREECE. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON", February 26.
An earthquake occurred in Crete and lasted for two minutes. Five people were killed and several were injured. The cathedral, power house and other buildings in Candia were damaged, but the surrounding villages suffered most. Nearly 100 houses are reported to have collapsed.
"The Times" Athens correspondent says that six people were killed and 60 injured in the earthquake, also that 230 houses collapsed and 560 were 1 damaged. The Government has dispatched tents and has allotted £1900 to erect a 'quake-proof wing on tbe 1 Candia Museum.
