Mr. Spreckles added considerably to his fortune in island sugar ventures. The story has been told with relish on hundreds of occasions, gathering new glamour as the years went by. But now an old record has turned up to show that the lands were, turned over by the pleasure-loving king to repay money borrowed by his daughter, Princess Ruth, from Mr. Spreckles.
