ANOTHER STORY EXPLODED. HONOLULU, January 30. Examination of old land records has robbed Hawaiian history of one of its most colourful storice. The story involves that historical poker game in which the late Clans Spreckles, prominent in the development of California, was said to have won iinnien.se sugar lands in Hawaii from King Kalakaua. Mr. Spreckles added considerably to his fortune in island sugar ventures. The story has been told with relish on hundreds of occasions, gathering new glamour as the years went by. But now an old record has turned up to show that the lands were, turned over by the pleasure-loving king to repay money borrowed by his daughter, Princess Ruth, from Mr. Spreckles.
