"MAKING MEN."
ABORIGINAL RITUAL. With the disintegration of native tribes, except in the wilder parts of Australia, the spectacular rites associated with aboriginal ceremonies are seldom seen by white men now, but ethnologists at the Adelaide Museum recently went to Ooldea, a stopping place on the railway line between Port Augusta and Kalgoorlie, and there saw all the elaborate ritual associated with "making men" of a number of youths. Natives from hundreds of miles away attended the gathering, some coining from beyond the border of West Australia, and others from the mountains 300 or 400 miles to the north. Ceremonials by day and night, and rites inexplicable to white men, occupied the attention of several hundred tribesmen, iind the ethnologists were able to obtain ji valuable pictorial and written record of the corroborees.
