OVERSEAS ATHLETES.
SEVEN WINS AT WELLINGTON. RAMPLING INJURES KNEE. CEO WE BEATS PERASALO OFF SCRATCH IN BROAD JUMP. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The British runners, Rampling, J. V. Powell and R. M. Craske, and the Finnish fieldsmen, Matti Sippala and Veikko Perasalo, appeared in several invitation events at an athletic meeting at the Basin Reserve last evening. The meeting, which had been postponed from Saturday on account of bad weather, was held under almost mid-winter conditions, a cold southerly wind preventing record performances. Tho Britishers had decisive wins in the invitation races, but in the 220 yds, which was tho closest contest of the meeting, Rampling fell at the finish and injured hi* knee, which prevented him from entering the 440 yds event. It is not known yet whether he will be fit enough to run at Christchurch on Wednesday. Results were: — 220 Yards Invitation Scratch Race.— Rampling (Britain) 1, W. .T. Fitzsimmons 2, C. Robinson 3.
