TOY CAVES IN SHOPS.
"PLACES OF AMUSEMENT."
LICENSE FEES NECESSARY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. In future business firms in Christehurch which provide entertainment for their customers, such as toy caves at Christmas, will have to pay fees to the City Council and license their premises as places of entertainment. This decision was made at a meeting of the City Council to-night, which had before it an opinion from counsel to the Municipal Association. In a case stated for opinion it was explained that a charge was made for admission to the cave, but every child was given a toy equal in value to the admission charge. Counsel replied that he was of opinion that a magic cave was a place of amusement and came within the provisions of the statute. The by-laws committee, in making its report to the council, stated that it had decided to insist on the payment of license fees in future and would notify thoso firms which usually provided this form of amusement. The council adopted the report.
