260 MEN AFFECTED. (By Telegraph.—rress Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Nearly 130 seamen; stewards and others employed on the steamer Marama will be paid off to-day, and about the same number will be paid off from the Maheno on March 19. The Union -Steam Shi]) Company gives as the reason for the withdrawal of the vessels their inability to compete in the Australian-New Zealand trade against subsidised foreign vessels. The Marama will remain at Wellington, and the Maheno will be paid off in Dunedin.
