N.S.W. SWIMMING TITLE. RYAN WINS QUARTER-MILE. CHARLTON FINISHES THIRD. SYDNEY, February 24. Swimming a great race yesterday, Noel Ryan retained the 440 yds New South Wales championship, beating the French champion, Jean Taris, by 4-os. Ryan's time was 5 3-5s slower than the Australian record. Emile Pouesard (France), also gave a fine exhibition, winning the international springboard diving championship. Results were:— 440 Yards New South Wales Championship.—Ryan 1, Taris 2, Charlton 3. Six started. Taris was the slowest to enter the water, but he joined Ryan at 25 yards. The Frenchman then led until the commencement of the final lap, when Ryan went to the front and won by three feet. Charlton was 15 yards away. Time, 5.1. Springboard Diving Championship.— Poussard. 109.8 points, 1; H. Tickle, 106.61, 2; A. O'Connor, 85.22, 3. MOUNT EDEN QUARTET. COMPETES AT WHANGAREI.
A strong team from tne Mount Eden Swimming Club, under the management of Mr. Harry Moore, competed at the Wnangarei Amateur Swimming Club's carnival on Friday night.
