BUSHMAN KILLED.
STRUCK BY FALLING TREE. NO NEGLIGENCE SHOWN. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PUTARURU, this day. A bushman, Edward Robert Hearn,_ 29 j*ars, was killed almost instantly at Te Whetu, near Putaruru, yesterday. Hearn was one of a party felling a tree in the Batholoraew Land and Timber Co.'s bush. He was struck by the butt of a falling tree which balanced on another and turned as it fell. Hearn endeavoured to avoid the tree, but was struck on the head. He died in less than four minutes. At the inquest held in the afternoon, the contractor, Charles ■ Reginald Cameron, stated that ordinary bush methods were being used and there was' no negligence on the part of deceased or his°mates. It was one of those accidents which no provision for safety could prevent. The coroner's verdict was accidental death. Hearn was a married man with two children. He was a good athlete and a Putaruru Rugby sub-union representative player.
