DIVERS RETAIN 1934 TITLES

The New Zealand swimming championships terminate at the Tepid Baths to-night, after which the prizes will be presented at a dance at the Peter Pan Cabaret. Heats of two races were swum off this morning. Results: — MEN'S 4-10 YARDS FEEESTYLE. 1034 champion, D. P. Lindsay; record holder, Gordon Bridson, 5.13 2-5. First Heat. r>. 11. Symcs (Canterbury) 1 Kiko Simon (South Auckland) - Keg. Thomas (Auckland) 3 Also started: .T. Neville (Taranaki), C. Cliff (Canterbury). Simon was slightly ahead of Symcs at the end of the first 100 yards in the good time of 04s. Thomas, in 2.33, had assumed command by a yard at the end of a furlong, Symes just touching in front pi the Maori. These three were the only serious contenders, and Symes eventually, won bv a yard from Simon, who headed Thomas by the merest fraction. As the pipeline that does duty for finishing line was up in the air in Thomas' lane, ho had to reach for it. It is a pity that in the circumstances that he was not allowed to qualify for 'the final, from which thirds are excluded. Time, 0.24 4-5. Second Heat. X. Crump (Auckland) } R. O'Driscoll, the new half-mile champion, has withdrawn from the 440 yards this morning, Otago cannot score another point, while Auckland must get at least three points in the flying squadron event, eight for the -water polo event, and a certain five for the ladies' furlong breaststroke.
