VOTE OF CENSURE.
MT. ROSKILE BOARD MEMBER
The Mount Ros;kill Road Board, by four votes to three, last night carried a motion censuring Mr. S. Scarborough, a member. The selection of a type of water meter for use in the district was being discussed, and it was announced that" tenders had been called for the supply of meters. Mr.' Scarborough questioned the authority of the board to call tenders for the meters, as he understood it had already been decided to purchase a certain make of meter.
The chairman, Mr. C. M. MeCiillough. said it was quite in order, and they wanted to obtain competitive prices.
Mr. Scarborough replied that it was not in order, and added that it looked like "graft" to him. Mr. McCullough asked Mr. Scarborough to withdraw the offensive remark. Mr. Scarborough said he refused to withdraw anything. The chairman then moved a motion of censure on Mr. Scarborough's statement. Before anyone coukl second the motion, several members began to speak at once. Eventually order was re-established, and Mr. A, T. O'Donnell seconded the motion. There had, he said, been too many libellous statements made at their mcetinsrs recently.
Mr. J. R. Robertson added fuel to the fire by charging the chairman with having wasted the ratepayers' money on previous occasions. At the chairman's request he withdrew the statement.
