Our Holiday Painting Contest.

SOME BRIGHT PICTURES RECEIVED

Painting competitions have usually proved popular in the Budget, and the seaside holiday contest was no exception to" this rule, many nicely mounted and brightly coloured pictures finding their way to this office. In the junior section Alcwyn Crossman deserves special mention for his painting, which was remarkably, well done for a seven-year-old. Alcwyn remembered a point which most other competitors missed, and that was to paint reflections in the waters. Roma Brown's, too, in this section was very suitably and prettily coloured. '

In'section B the four prize • winners' work was of a very high standard indeed, Pat Feather's daintily tinted picture being about the bestl Jacqueline Irwin, and Allan Wilson submitted excellent work, both being very careful of the shading in sea and sky. Peter, McNaught, too, must be congratulated as the youngest prize winner in this section. Several people mistook part of the clouds for the sun, • and others, too, painted a strip of sand from the cliffs which the artist had really intended as sea. However, all the work was neatly and carefully done, and the prize and certificate winners are to be congratulated.
