CONTESTS AT TIMARU. (By Telegraph.—Tress Association.) TIMARU, Tuesday. After a very successful opening yesterday, the Dominion brass band contests "were continued to-day.. Results were as follow: —
E Flat Bass Solo.—V. Abraham, 91 points, 1; A. Harrod and M. Codyre, 90, 2; H. Buck, 89, 4. B Flat Cornet Solo—J. E. Wells, 93 points, 1; R. Mathieson, 91, 2; R. Simpson, 90, 3. Quartets. —Timaru Municipal Band (K. Milligan, P. Abraham, R. Mathieson, C. Necklen), 94 points, 1; Queen Alexandra's Own Band, 93, 2; Port Nichoh son Silver Band, No. 1, 92, 3. Also competed: St. Kilda Band No. 2, 91; St. Kilda Band No. 1, 89; Port Nicholson Band No. 2, 88; Invercargill Civic Band, 8S; Palmerston North City Band, 87; Woolston Band, 8G; Westport Municipal Band, 84. Flugel Horn Solo.—G. Lowry (St. Kilda), 92 points, 1; R. Ward (Wellington Boys' Institute), 91, 2; T. McLean (St. Kilda), F. Smith (Timaru Municipal), E. Onnrod (Port Nicholson), 90, 3.
The first B grade test selection, "Gems of Wagner," was held to-night. In accordance with a new rule the points will not be announced till the conclusion of the second test on Thursday night. The nine competing bands were: —The Artillery Band (Southern Command)., the Ashburtdn Silver Band, the Christchurch Municipal Band, the Gore Municipal Band, the Greymouth Municipal Band, the Palmerston North City Silver Band, the Taranaki Regimental and New Plymouth Municipal Band, the Wellington Boys' Institute Band and the Westport Municipal, Band,
