RECEIVED STOLEN GOODS.
TOBACCONIST SENTENCED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. A sentence of reformative, detention for a period not exceeding two- years was passed at the Supreme Court today on Edwin Joseph Fearon, a tobacconist, who had been convicted on five charges of receiving stolen tobacco and cigarettes. The judge said the disclosures of the startling ease with which stolen goods could be disposed of were alarming, and the fact that thieves had found it so easy to get into touch with Fearon was surprising. Others engaged in the nefarious trade must have given information that it was safe to approach accused.
