» INTER-CLUB FOUBS. WAITEMATA'S DOUBLE SUCCESS. Two inter-eluh contests were rowed on Saturday—the faro Cup under the control of the Auckland Rowing Club, and the Mason Cup controlled by the Auckland Bowing Association. Owing to the rough water on the Taniaki Drive course the racing took place inside Hobson Bay, where the course was sheltered from tin! north-east wind by the railwav embankment. Although the water was 'smooth, it soon shallowed with the ebb tide, and crews had hard plugging races all the way. Wnitemntn's colours were deflnitelv on top by winning both races by big margins. The light maidens four added the Cnro Cup to its unbeaten record with six lengths to spare, and the heavy ninjden four won the Mason Cup by tour "clear lengths. Mr. G. 11. Buchanan was starter and Mr. L. Gardiner judge, while among the many spectators were Mr. S. Cnro. donor of the Caro Cup, and Mr. W. Mason, donor of the Mason Cup. Marceau, L. C. Winter, G. Boon, C. O. Hughes. , , St. George's.—O. Kelleway, O. Malthus, |E. Donovan, V. Keith. I West End.—.l. A. I'arsous, R. Bassett, J. D. (.'rales, X. Bellamy. The crews jumped away to a good start, but Waitemata were quickly in their swing and took the lead. Auckland and West End were fairlv level next, and St. Georges followed. By the halfway mark Waitemata were nearly four lengths clear, while Auckland were second, a length ahead of West End. With three-quarters of the journey covered Waitemata had increased their lead, and went on to spurt and cross the line six lengths ahead of Auckland, who were one length and a half iu front of West End. Hunt.. k On the given signal Waitemata took the lead. and with half the journey covered were three lengths ahead. Then followed St. George's, while Auckland and West End had a tussle for third place. Over the last stretch Waitemata opened out to cross the line with four lengths to spare, while St. George's finished second after having to swerve to avoid a launch, half a length ahead of Auckland, with West End another length away. NORTH # SHORE CLUB. Weather conditions were good on- Saturday for rowing at North Shore, and the committee decided to hold a trial fours. The crews were:- —W. Dean, S. Gardiner, C. Willetts, T. Costello, and W. Reid (cox) v. S. McDougall. F. Norrls, H. Judklns. D. Hilt, and 1". Turner (cox). From a good start McDougall quickly took half a length load, which he, maintained to the Devonport whurf. Dean then spurted and drew level. A ding-dong race ensued for the remainder of the distance, the lead alternating -between the crews in a very exciting mariner. In the final few yards. Dean drew ahead In a desperate finish to win by half a canvas. The final, between W. Dean's crew and E. Kom. S. Chnllinor, V. Mnllett. and W. Walsh, will be rowed this evening.
