RACING AT ROTORUA.

THE ANNUAL MEETING.

PRINCE COLOSSUS •WINS CUP. KEBG FORD THE TOURIST. The annual meeting of the Rdtorua Jockey Club opened at Arawa Park on Saturday, and, after heavy rain during the morning, the track was inclined to cut out. There was a good attendance, and the sum of £14,147 10/ was put through the machine, compared with £9542 10/ for the corresponding day last year, .-.a. increase of £4005. A Good Finish. The scratching pen was used very freely in the Mokoia Hack, only about half the field going to the post. Miss Lorraine was installed favourite, while Respectful and Poi Dance were next best backed. The favourite got caught, in the tapes and lost any chance she had. Poi Dance, who dr--*w the inside position, began very quickly, being followed by Respectful and King Brierly. Along the back Poi Dance was attended by "Lady Zinnia. Respectful, King Brierly, Engi, Wahine Reihi and Royal ■Secret. Entering the straight, Poi Dance was just a shade in front of Lady Zinnia, who was followed by Respectful, Wahine Reihi, Royal Secret, Engi and Miss Lorraine. In the run to the judge Lady Zinnia wore Poi Dance down to win by a neck, with Royal Secret a head away third. Then followed Respectful, Engi, Wahine Reihi and Miss Lorraine. Favourite Fails. Gay Athloue, Express and Whirling were scratched for the Hot Springs Handicap, and. Alignment, Astarth and Wiulona were the public fancies.. Calcutta lost some ground at the start, and Princess Lap led out from Astarth, Winlona, and Lady Diana. Just before entering the back stretch Kilberis got knocked back nearly last. Astarth led along the back from Winlona, Lady Diana, Princess Lap. and Alignment, while Kilberis and Calcutta were well back. Astarth was attended into the straight by Lady Diana, Winlona, Alignment and Princess Lap, and went on to win by a length and a half from Winlona, who beat Lady Diana by two lengths. Alignment, Princess Lap, Kilberis and Calcutta followed as named. The Chief. Event. Limex, Valpai, Air Lassie, Don't Lap, Holly Lu and Princess Bede were the defections from the Rotorua Cup; leaving a field of'eight. Prince Colossus was installed favourite, with Sinking Fund and Prolyxo next in demand. Passing the stands. Sinking Fund'was in charge from Lady Spy and Prince Colossus, together, attended by Prolyxo and Psychologist, also oh terms, Trishna, First Lap and Alloy. There-was very little change along -tlie back, and crossing tho top Sinking-Fund was "followed by Pro-, lyxo, Prince ' Colossus, Lady Spy "and First Lap, who was inovihg up, fast. Sinking Fund held'Ms position into the straight from Prince Colossus, First Lap, Prolyxo, Lady Spy, Trishna, Alloy and Psychologist. In the run home Prince Colossus did best to beat Sinking Fund by half a length, with First Lap two lengths away, and then came Prolyxo, Lady Spy, Trishna, Psychologist and Alloy. The Geyser Hack. Xun Nicer, Bonny Gay, Loombination, Air Lassie, Silver Division and Royal Secret were withdrawn from the Geyser Handicap, and most money came for Barn Dance, who was very solidly supported, while Tuaheahe and Sir Abb were next favoured. Passing the stands Tuaheahe, Hawthorn, Ford Acre and Barn Dance were leading a bunch, and £oing along the back Tuaheahe was followed by Royal Dash, Hawthorn, Barn Dance, Huskie, Ford Acre and Sir Abb. Tuaheahe and Royal Dash were together crossing the- top, attended by Barn Dance, Sir Abb, Velreina, Ford Acre, Huskie and Hawthorn. Tuaheahe, Barn Dance and Royal Dash were together at the home turn, with Sir Abb, Ford Acre, Huskie and Valreina next. In the run to the pos.t Sir Abb did best to beat the favourite by a neck, with Royal Dash half a length away. Then came Huskie, Sunny Downs, Ford Acre, Tuaheahe and Princess Bede. King Ford All the Way. The day's sport concluded with the Tourist Handicap, for which Namakia, King Ford and Wait and See had most friends. King Ford was soon in front, and stayed there. Along the back he was attended by Namakia, Kurapae, Hampton Park, Exaggeration, and British Columbia, while Ballymoney and Wait and See were last. King Ford was followed into the straight by Namakia, Hampton Park, Kurapae and British Columbia, and went on to win by three lengths from Hampton Park, who beat Ballvmoney by a length. Then came Naniakia, British Columbia, Kurapae, Wait and See and Exaggeration. Later results are: — MOKOIA HANDICAP of £100 and a Sweepstake of £2 each for starters.
